INSTITUT DE RECERCA I TECNOLOGIA AGROALIMENTARIES (IRTA). Spain
IRTA is a research institute owned by the Government of Catalonia attached to the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Action. Its general objectives are promoting research and technological development in the area of agri-food, facilitating Scientific and Technology transfer whilst seeking the utmost collaboration between the public and private sectors.

MINISTRY OF FOOD AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCK (BATEM). Turkey
Established in 1934 under the name of “Subtropical Fruits Research Institute”, BATEM is a Turkish public foundation that contains 5 research institutes (Citrus Research Institute, Greenhouse Research Institute, Biological Control Research Institute, the Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute and the Regional Cotton Research Institute). There are 297 personnel working in BATEM organized in 8 different research departments; Fruit Dept; Vegetable Dept; Plant Protection Dept; Plant Nutrition Dept; Field Crops Dept; Food Technology, Ornamental and Medical Plants Dept; Agricultural Economy and Extension Dept; Production Dept.

UNIVERSITY GENT.UGENT. Belgium
UGENT was founded in 1817, holds at present over 4000 researchers and has a leading international position in research and sciences. UGENT participates in around 150 FP7-projects (22 of them are coordinated), 12 Marie Curie fellowships, and 11 ERC Grants. The Department of Crop Protection Chemistry integrates scientific knowledge on pesticide science and environmental and human exposure assessment. High-tech SME established in 1989 as a Swedish - Hungarian joint venture company. The business activity of the company is development, engineering and manufacturing of advanced environmental technologies and equipment components for agricultural and soil treatment applications, such as development of biological control substances, manufacturing of plant growth promoters by microbiological mobilization of minerals, recycling of agricultural refuses, biological remediation of contaminated soils, re cultivation of degraded industrial and agricultural land. The company is one of the leading international edges for high temperature carbonization and surface modification technology methods and apparatus, including all auxiliary equipments for comprehensive installations, with special concern to recycling and upgrading of agricultural biomass.

CENTRO DE ASESORIA DOCTOR FERRER S.L. (FERRER). Spain
The company started in 1981 with the creation of a food-testing lab and consulting firm. In 2006, Mrs Astrid van Ginkel joined the company and created FITOMON, the business line within the company dedicated to consultancy for the plant extract and food and pharmacy industry that deals with food complements and phyto products. The firm also has expertise in measuring water activity and moisture sorption isotherms as has been distributing in Spain the instruments manufactured by Decagon devices inc (USA). This activity has lead to offering testing and consultancy services related to the use of water activity and sorption isotherms in foods and pharmaceutical formulations. Since 2005, the firm has been offering in Spain sensors, consultancy and training for improving water management at a farm level through a network of consultants (www.ech2osystem.com). At the present moment (April 2010), there is a network of five partners (Zaragoza, Lleida, Sevilla, Huelva, Córdoba) with more than 100 farmers and 300 farms. This network is now being increased with collaborations in France and Morocco.

GALENIKA-FITOFARMACIJA AD. (FITO). Serbia
The Company holds the leading position in Serbia in pesticide production. Focused in product quality and the standardized quality assurance, Company’s mission is set on the basis of responsibility towards agricultural producers, surrounding community, environment and population. Annual production capacity is 8.000 tons of liquid and 6.000 tons of solid pesticide formulations and portfolio with more than 100 crop protection products (almost all type of pesticide formulations: powders, wettable powders, soluble powders, granules, soluble concentrates, suspension concentrates, emulsifiable concentrates, oil-in-water emulsions, and oil dispersions). Since 2006, we have become members of the European Association of Generic Pesticide Producers (European Crop Care Association - ECCA) as an only pesticide producer outside the European Union.

 

FMC Foret S.A. (FMC). Spain
FMC Foret, a subsidiary of FMC Corporation, has been active in Spain for over 100 years and is one of the leading chemical manufacturers in the country. From its headquarters in Barcelona, the company coordinates production across its manufacture plants in Spain and one in the Netherlands, as well as its distribution centres throughout the Iberian Peninsula, and exports to the European Union and the rest of the world. Production and supply of chemicals, minerals and Plant Protection Products and related services to industry in general, either in the form of as raw material or process auxiliaries.

STICHTING DIENST LANDBOUWKUNDIG ONDERZOEK. (LEI). Netherlands
LEI is part of the Social Sciences Group within the department of Social Sciences and of the Wageningen University & Research Centre for Development Innovation. LEI develops economic expertise for government bodies and industry in the field of food, agriculture and the natural environment. By means of independent research, LEI offers its customers a solid basis for socially and strategically justifiable policy choices. LEI bases its expertise on thorough knowledge of the sector and the focused use of economic and other social scientific disciplines in this regard. The field of work encompasses the agricultural sector, fisheries, nature management and the use of the natural environment. All the links in the chain, from consumer to producer, are involved.

CEM ANALYTICAL SERVICES LTD. (CEMAS). United Kindom
CEMAS is a small private contract laboratory established in 1989 employing 45 people with the objective of providing data to help discover, develop and register agrochemicals. The business was started by senior staff that had spent over 20 years each in various senior capacities in ICI Agricultural Division and its subsequent manifestations such as Syngenta. CEMAS has skills in analytical chemistry for both residues and formulations of agrochemicals, biocides, and pharmaceuticals. CEMAS also provide ecotoxicology, efficacy data, product certification and regulatory submission to governmental regulators. CEMAS has always been profitable and has used the money to fund the best staff and equipment available.

 

ASSEMBLEE DES REGIONS EUROPEENNES FRUITIERES LEGUMIERES ET HORTICOLES. (AREFLH). France
AREFLH (Assemblée des regions d’Europe fruitièrses, légumières et horticoles) is a European association of 25 EU regions representing more than 40 % of the fruit and vegetables European production and producers. AREFLH is organised in two major working groups: EU production regions and EU producers. AREFLH was launched in 1999 with 3 main objectives:

  1. To represent, defend and promote the common interests of the Fruit and Vegetables and Horticulture producing Regions in European economy.
  2. To organize and animate the dialogue and the work together between Regions, to develop synergies, to instigate the setting of actions and of common programs in order to consolidate and valorize the fruit, vegetable and horticultural regional activity.
  3. To reinforce, with the support of the Europe Regions Assembly (AER), the representation of these regions to the European and World institutions, and to facilitate their participation in the construction of Europe and the decision-making processes.
